Our Appointment With A Specialist

9 Weeks 5 Days Pregnant

As you all know (well, if you read our earlier post you know) we are expecting triplets. When you're pregnant with triplets you're automatically in the category "high risk" so unfortunately this meant we couldn't stay with our family doctor, we had to be transferred to IMC Hospital's High Risk Specialists. My Doctor recommended we see Dr. E. I had met him once before when I was pregnant with B(our first child), I was high risk the later half of that pregnancy. When I called IMC to schedule an appointment with Dr. E they said he was too busy to see me so I would have to see Dr. B. I was of course disappointed. I trust our doctor and don't want to leave him for anyone, but if I have to I want to go to the person he recommended and trusts.
The appointment was this last Tuesday, my wonderful husband met me there and we saw an ultrasound tech first. She did an ultrasound to examine the babies. She measured each of them and told us they were all on schedule one is a day ahead and the other two are two days behind, but she said it's hard to accurately measure with an ultrasound, and they all looked great. I was really surprised at what she did next because I thought I wasn't far enough along but she found and recorded each of the babies heart beats. That was the neatest most comforting thing for me! I have been so nervous up to this point and hearing all three babies heart beats helped comfort me. After she took a few pictures and finished measuring the babies she left and Dr. B came in. I don't want to offend anyone who might have had Dr. B and loves him but I was not a big fan. The whole time he was in the room with us he told us only the negatives about triplet pregnancies and criticized my regular family doctor and then told us we had the option to have a reduction procedure (which basically means you abort 1 or 2 of the babies). I was so thrown back and offended. Most doctors take a middle ground and tell you the positives and negatives about your situation. He also told us at that clinic we could request a certain doctor but it wouldn't mean we would see the same doctor for every appointment because they were all so busy....SO FRUSTRATING! I want one doctor for my entire pregnancy that I can trust. So anyway, sorry for the long story. I was grateful for the nice ultrasound tech and that we were able to see all three babies and hear their heart beats. That was the highlight of the appointment. Needless to say when I scheduled an appointment for 12 weeks I insisted that I see Dr. E and ironically enough the lady scheduling me didn't resist like before.
They did give us pictures to bring home but I've been sick this past week and haven't had a chance to scan them into my computer. Like I mentioned earlier our next appointment will be at twelve weeks...I think the appointment is scheduled for April 7....check up back then and I'll have another baby update. :)
